Traits of Hospitality Business

DrexelOnline_HospitalityMngmntThose of us, who are in hospitality business, have to make a lot of choices and tough decisions. We deal with people’s pleasure, not basic needs. We have to convince them to pay huge bills and have to do it by satisfying them. We have to create an image loyal enough to pull customer time and again to avail our service. But sometimes we lose it all just by not deciding to do the right thing. For example, if you are a person who enters a restaurant to use the washroom and when you ask where the wash room is, you are said that it’s only for the customers, are you ever going to go back to that place? NO, you are not. I will tell you what you will do. You will come back home and tell your friends how unfriendly that restaurant is. Not allowing you to use the washroom was not a critical executive decision but it still cost them some business. If they could have done the opposite, you would have definitely dined there sooner or later. These types of small things separate great hospitality business from bad ones.

If it is a restaurant, hand your customers something complementary. It’s not necessary that it has to be expensive, but maintain a standard. Give them a nice postcard with a view of your property. Make them feel welcomed. They will surely go home and share the pleasant experience and the post card with friends, family and neighbours. it is serving you 3 purposes. First, you gain these customers loyalty and they are likely to visit your restaurant regularly. Second, they will spread the word of mouth and your company gets marketing worth thousands of dollars at the cost of a post card. You are likely to have more customers without having to do anything. Third, you will have a company that has got a good will and reputation growing rapidly. I guess a post card is worth all of it.

Go in front of your building and take a few snap shots. Keep it as the wallpaper in your desktop. Pay attention and see how your property looks. This is how your customers see it every day. Is your driveway too clumsy? Is the building too old or looks tired or faded? If yes then make it look good. After all, it is our business depends on customer’s satisfaction. Ensure all these and you are likely to have a great season ahead of you.

Open book management is the best way to deal with the economical downfall. Educate them on the concept of economic recession and show them ways so that they can deal with the situation and use it to their advantage instead of panicking. Use them to their fullest potential. Involve them in the decision making process. Give them a feeling that they belong to the company. Make them a proud employee of your company. Stand by their side at tough times rather than passing on their problems.

You might be thinking why you should care. But this is business. The goal is to make profit. When you are paying an employee get the best out of him. And your payment becomes cost effective. The best way to get the best out of them is to respect them and make them feel like a part of the team and an important one. Engage them in as much ways as possible.

Putting your head in the sand is not the best option at this point. Becoming more knowledgeable and proactive will give the employee a sense of trust and paternalistic assurance they are being taken care of. Learn the ways to increase productivity and apply them efficiently.

One of the ways to increase the employee engagement is to give them important projects and get it done by them. The upper management should delegate proper amount of power to the new comers. Share the knowledge and experience that they have achieved throughout the years. Give them some authority to exercise and train them to use the authority properly for the betterment of the company.

Employment applications are very important to fill out and fill out effectively. So many of the job applicants would keep the job application form vacant and write “see the attached resume”. Never give a negative feedback about the company that you used to work in. even if you do not leave the company at a high note, make sure you give a positive idea about the company.

Fill the Unemployment Gap in your Resume

Unemployment gaps can be a bad thing for your resume if you do not represent it in a nice way. If you are unemployed for a period of time then it creates the employment gap. As days go by the gap widens and becomes more embarrassing and can affect your confidence level negatively. Try to fill the gap as early as possible.

Paying Bills Volunteering can be a way to fill up the gap. It will help you to fill up the time that you have been unemployed. Maximum jobs that you find in the business world are available as a volunteer job. But if you don’t find the one that suits you, then learn something new. You can find a lot like this if you search the internet. So you have no excuse to sit and relax at home.

Anatomy of Globalization – An Insight

wordle-globalization-reportThe thing called globalization is said to be founded by Phoenicians. The reason behind this is, they were great businessman and traders. They crossed their territories to trade their goods and purchase other goods from other civilizations. Some would argue that Chinese were the ones who gave birth to globalization. And then there were Spanish, English and Dutch colonies to consider as well.

China would have become the biggest and the most powerful country in the world if Admiral Zheng continued with his journey all around the globe with his fleet of treasures. But the same old Chinese thing kept him from doing that. They had no interest what so ever in what the world had to offer. They were too possessed by their own country. If you notice, you can clearly see the potential of china as a trading country in the present world. China went to the furthest extent of international business like no other nations back then.

For us these do not really matter where globalization came from. We are happy that it is here and confident that it is here to stay as long as the human civilization. But we have to change the way globalization is shaping up to be and use it in a positive way to make a better world. Globalization if handled efficiently can become a great tool in changing the fate of so many trade deficit nations of the world.

Globalization is a very dynamic process. So countries should be fast growing to keep up with it. It requires having all the internal problems of a country solved to do that. Globalization like any other modern thing favors only the productive and efficient countries but it can be really bad for the countries with no productivity. If a nation is having internal collisions politically or of any other form, it’s likely to lose grip and lose their wealth to a nation that has the ability to handle it properly.
